THE FACT that a privately entered Volvo F12 won the first British Truck Grand Prix at Donington last September does not make the event any more acceptable to the manufacturer. The race conflicts with Volvo's philosophy on safety and the environment, and Bernt Brandtzaeg, managing director of the British company, cannot reconcile it with the SMMT's Elm campaign to improve the prestige of the motor and road transport industries.
On the other hand, to maintain its "policy of supporting operators of its vehicles, the company will be prepared in certain instances to offer trackside service facilities to private entrants."
