Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

OBJECTIONS have been lodged by Roxburgh County Council to the proposal to withdraw the Monday to Friday bus service which has operated between Newtown St. Boswells and Kelso since the withdrawal of passenger trains between St. Boswells and Berwick-on-Tweed three years ago.

The objections have been submitted to the Traffic Commissioners who have before them an application from Scottish Omnibuses Ltd. for permission to withdraw the bus service.

Mr. James Kyle, county clerk, who has invited the public who make use of the service to submit details of their journeys, stated: "This is the bus service, the provision of which was, in 1964, made a condition by the Minister of Transport when consent was given to the withdrawal of the railway passenger services between St. Boswells and Berwick-on-Tweed."

A spokesman for the bus company told COMMERCIAL MOTOR that the service consisted of two return journeys a day on Mondays to Fridays, from which the average receipts were 3.3d per mile. The company had approached British Railways, who agreed that the service should be withdrawn. Its future was now in the hands of the Traffic Commissioners. A service would remain on Saturdays, when there are three return journeys.
