DRIVERS and employers from 30 haulage firms in the North East met at Stockton last Friday to hear Shadow Transport Minister Mr. Peter Walker warn that the heavy industries in the North would be severely handicapped by heavy load taxes proposed in the Transport Bill.

"It is ludicrous to encourage industries to go North and then cripple them by the imposition of mileage taxes and abnormal load taxes".
