Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

CAR transporter operations from Pressed Steel Fisher's Castle Bromwich works are to he handled by British Road Services.

This was announced on Wednesday when a formula for settling a three-day strike of transporter drivers was worked out. The strike stopped production of Austin cars and made 9,000 PSF and BMC workers idle.

It is understood that 90 of the 130 drivers concerned will be declared redundant by PSF; ex gratia payments or other appropriate compensation will be paid. The remaining 40 PSF drivers are to be redeployed.

The dispute is believed to have concerned the disparity in pay rates between PSF and BRS transporter drivers. The Transport and General Workers Union has sought assurances that BRS—which already does 60 per cent of the car body movements from Castle Bromwich to the assembly lines at Longbridge and Abingdon —will pay comparable wages.

The complete takeover of the operations may be phased over a nine-month period.
