APLASTICS tipper body for the carriage of h corrosive chemical fertilizer has recently completed by Homalloy, Ltd., Preston. The t which is 20 ft. long, 7 ft. 5 in. wide and 4 ft. deep, is mounted on an Atkinson eight-wheeled et with de luxe plastics-panelled cab, and the vehicle be operated by Wm. Dobson (Edinburgh), Ltd., have been operating two plastics tipper bodie opencast-coal haulage since 1959 with corn success.
This latest Homalloy 'body is carried or aluminium sub-frame which has an aluminium c carrying a glass-mat-reinforced polyester skin for the internal panelling. The body is fabricated a six-ply laminate Of alternate layers of Fothergil Harvey's Tyglas woven rovings and Tygamat chot strand mat as reinforcement for Orkast poly resin.
The body is hand-laid-up in sections which joined together to form a smooth, watertight shell that is claimed to have particularly resistance to impact, wear and abrasion, abr resistance being imparted by the addition of borundum oxide as reinforcement for the gel coat body is enclosed by a protective aluminium ca with sliding hatches, and a 15-ton payload ca carried.
