VEHICLE LIVES will be prolonged in future by labour-intensive independent fleet inspections, Freight Transport Association er eering director Terry Goldrick predicted last week.

Mr Goldrick was speaking at an Institute of Road Transport Engineers' forum in London, and said that own account operators will make greater savings in their transport costs if they make more efficient use of their lorries than if they opt for contract hire.
