DIRKETT AND ROBERTS LTD., Stoke-on'.) Trent, one of the largest independent bakeries in the country, is placing in service Thames Clearway. vans fittedwith a new type of bakery tray., claimed to be the first of its type in the country.

The tray has been designed and manufactured by Burgess Engineering, of Stoke-on-Trent, the system involving the use of collapsible basket trays, stacked on top of each other, replacing the conventional method of stacking on aluminium racks permanently fitted inside the vehicle.

Each van carries 240 of the new trays, providing a capacity of 2,000 loaves and 500 items of confectionery. The trays are held in position by sliding securing clips fitted to the sides of the van, and nine trays can be loaded in one operation compared with one tray under the old method. cutting loading time by 10 per cent.

As each delivery is made, the trays are folded and stacked, thus providing the driver with greater manceuvrability inside the vehicle. Another advantage of the system is that, if required, the vehicle can also be used on duties requiring a normal bolo/an.
