Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Transport for London (TH.) has dismissed recent media reports criticising the accuracy of DVLA records as "wild speculation,"

In the run-up to the launch of London's congestion charging scheme it was alleged that out-of-date records at the DVLA offices in Swansea could scupper the whole system (CAf14-20 Nov).

But Derek Turner, MD of Tff's street management division, says talk of out-of-date records is itself out of date: "I can assure you that the accuracy of DULA data Is sufficient for us to find between 85-00% of motorists—far higher than the 75% that has been suggested."

Turner adds that the policy of enforcing bus lanes in the capital over the past couple of years has improved accuracy rates. And he Is sure that they will improve further when cameras start monitoring every vehicle in the congestion charging zone.

However, a TfL spokesman concedes that recent stories about the accuracy of records has led to a greater effort to clamp down on any errors that exist: "London is the one area which is the worst in the country" he says. "That lends further credibility to the database—if the accuracy is that high In London, one can only assume it's higher everywhere else."
