• Mercedes-Benz went public this week on its plan to join Volvo, ERF and Scania in a fullblooded assault on the truck contract hire market. The launch in the UK, Germany, and three other European countries, is expected in the first half of 1992.
Mercedes, rather than its dealers, will undertake buy-back guarantees on a large scale for the first time, in what will be a head-on challenge to specialists.
