A LEYLAND National Bus shell converted into a mobile executive suite has just been ,put into service by National Travel (South East), Named the Super National, this vehicle is to be marketed to top bracket firms seeking a boardroom which can cruise at 70mph, or can provide luxury meeting facilities anywhere a coach can be parked.
This vehicle is a direct development of the Leyland Business Commuter designed by Leyland two years ago.
Many of the standard features of the National have been used by National Travel in its promotion of the Super National to potential hirers. Examples are the self-levelling suspension, the anti-dive braking and the ventilation system.
The coach has seats for up to 26 passengers and has a crew of two—the driver and a secretary/hostess.
The main deck has three rows of armchair seats with controls built into the armrests for TV sound and selection of three radio channels through headsets. These seats are also designed for individual work. At the rear of the coach is the meeting room with twinseat couches facing each other over small tables.
Behind the driver a toilet and vanity unit is fitted. Opposite there is a cloakroom facility incorporating a demountable wardrobe. The units are curtained off from the main saloon. Luggage space is located under the rear-seat platforms.
The secretarial station with electric typewriter, tape transcriber and radio telephone is located at the front of the saloon. The secretary also controls the colour TV set, radio channels, background music and public address system. The unit includes a video recorder independent of the TV set, so that while one programme is being screened another can be recorded for later transmission.
