Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

rOR some time the Arlington Motor I Co., Ltd., High Road, Ponders End, Middx., has been converting ex-W.D. Bedford MW-type chassis for civilian use. W.D. payload is 15 cwt., which is safely uprated by the Arlington concern to 30-35 cwt.

Hundreds of such fully reconditioned chassis have been sold with van and other fixed bodies, and following requests for a vehicle which could be used for a number of duties, an entirely new type has been evolved. This has a readily detachable lorry body, which leaves the unit admirably suited to hauling gang-mowers.

Spenborough screw tipping gear, including pivot cradles at the rear, is permanently mounted on the chassis. A pivot bar is mounted transversely on the body, and only one pin has to be removed to free the body from the tipping gear.

All the load is taken on the screwgear nut housing, so that the securing pin is relieved of shearing stresses. When the body is removed it is supported off the ground by four tubular members which locate in sockets secured to the body.

The chassis can be reversed under the body until the cradles on the frame and the pivot bar on the body are brought into line. A plate which

forms part of the nut housing is then . placed behind a substantial bridge piece secured to the body, where it is located by a pin.

By lowering the body by means of the tipping gear, the pivot bar and cradles can be brought into line, any inaccuracy in position being adjusted manually.

There is a towing hitch at the rear for coupling up to a five-gang mower, a requirement of Enfield Urban District Council, the operator of the particular vehicle under review.

Apart from being fully reconditioned, the chassis is converted to forward control and a roomy cab is fitted.
