was given by Messrs Mitchell Bros., Douglas Water, Lanarks, to the Scottish Licensing Authority, last week, when the firm applied for a renewal of *nil' licence. Application had been originally made for five lorries and a trailer, but on the current volume of business the firm could not justify this number. A licence for three lorries and a trailer was granted. The base was stated to be in an isolated spot. In the year before nationalization, the earnings of seven vehicles and a trailer were £15,534. No offer of acquisition had been made by the Road Haulage Executive.
The firm were• granted permits for a reduced number of vehicles within a 40-mile radius, but practically mi customers lay within the first 15 miles. Revenue declined to £3,229 in 1949-50, £4,386 in 1950-51 and £4,951 in 1951-52.
FORTY-SIX COMETS FOR NIZAM RAILWAYS
