modern radio and computer techniques.,is London Transport. being considered by A pilot scheme costing about E250,000 is proposed to evaluate the scheme.
In a report to the Greater London Council, London Transport has said the system would eventually involve fitting radio equipment in all its buses with channels for speech and coded data.
Continuous transmission would provide controllers at four centres with the location of all buses on all major routes and computers would handle the flow of coded data.
Panels in bus cabs would display coded instructions relayed back to the driver.
The scheme also includes proposals for communications improvements within the large garages and the use of more pocket radios by roadside inspectors.
LT has already gained experience in the use of telecom munications in bus control through the system already in use on route 11 and the control centre at Manor Park.
The £10 million investment in the new system will be spread over a period of several years.
