Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ANEW horizontal oil engine has been produced by Norris, Henty and Gardners, Ltd. It is an outcome of the good reception received by the 6LX design. The new type, which will be known as the 6HLX; is basically similar to the vertical version, although modifications have been necessary to meet certain changed requirements.

The flanged crankcase end plate incorporates a single-point rear engine mounting, and is suitable for bolting to the clutch housing in unit construction

arrangements. The plate and the flywheel are smaller than those of the 6LX. There is a two-point flexible mounting at the front which permits oscillation of the unit on its own axis.

Dry and wet sections are embodied in the sump, which carries the main oil supply of 51 gal. After being pumped to the various points of the engine, the lubricant drains through a coarse screen into a well in the lower part of the dry sump, then being returned by pump to the wet sump.

The " wet" section delivery filter has a paper element that is spring-loaded so that in the case of filter stoppage the element will lift, allowing the by-passing of the oil flow.

Certain changes have been made to assist the flow of lubricant and cylinderhead coolant. Although similar to those of the 6LX, the fuel pumps have additional fuel-volume chambers on their upper side, also a different control system for the starting device.

A modified Amal diaphragm feed pump delivers to a fuel-air separator chamber above the injection pumps. The feed to the injection pumps is then by way of a second filter mounted on the off side of the power unit.

For special duties, an oil-cooler, pump can be fitted on the timing-case cover, being driven by a splined coupling on the dynamo sprocket spindle.

HOME MARKET IMPROVES

TRADING conditions on the home I market had improved during the past year, but the export side of the business had not come up to expectations, said Mr. Dennis Foden, chairman and managing director, E.R.F. (Holdings), Ltd., at the annual meeting last week. He added that there were signs of improvement in certain of the company's overseas markets.
