Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

T' proposal by Doncaster Corporation to increase bus fares without prior consultation with a neighbouring local authority, was: "a most serious breach of faith," declared CIL W. Cranfield, chairman of Adwick-le-Street Council Finance Committee, last week. He said: "We were assured that before any action was taken we would be approached on the matter. We shall make serious objections if we are not consulted in future," he added.

It had been announced a few days earlier by Doncaster Corporation that they were applying to increase bus fares on the Woodlands, Skellow and Carcroft routes by Id. or Id.

Cranfield said an assurance of consultation had been given at a meeting with the Doncaster Transport Committee. "We have advised the corporation that we shall use every endeavour to object to their application, even to the engagement of counsel," he added.

County Alderman T. Baynham said that a good case could be put forward for fare reductions. He said: "Some of the fares inside the borough are cheaper than ours. All we are asking for is a fair hearing in future."

Fares on Rochdale Transport Department buses were raised this week following approval from the North Western Traffic Commissioners, Increases of Id. or Id. will be imposed on practically all fares,
