E.Inst.Pet., has been appointed divisional .stores-officer for the Midland Division on the Road Haulage Executive. Mr. Bond was formerly controller-general and director of the British Zone Petroleum Coordinating Authority in Germany. MR. A. Simms, formerly stores superintendent for Ribble Motor Services, Ltd.. has been appointed divisional stores officer for the Executive's North Western Division. .
MR. A. G. MARSDEN, C.B.E., M.Inst.T:, of Lever Bros., and Unilever. Ltd., has been granted by the Institute of Transport the British Transport Commission Award for his paper, " Traders and the Transport Act, 1947" 'MR. W. LUFF, general manager, of Blackpool Transport Department, receives, the Institute's Road Transport (Passenger) Medal for his paper, "Budgetary and Statistical COntrol of Road Passenger Transport" " Distribution in Reverse—the Work of the C.R.S." has brought MR. W. A. WINSON, of S.P.D., ltd., the Institute 1944 Award. The "Modern Transport" Award goes to MR. F. A. COSTIOAN, Of PONSITIOUth Transport Department, who subnitted a' treatise on "Stores Organization in a Transport Undertaking."
MR,' W. 3. MoRtsoN, M.B.E., M.I.Mech.E., chief engineer of the Eastern National Omnibtls Co., Ltd., has retired after 52 years in the road passenger transport industry. He joined the Clarkson and Capel Steam Car Syndicate, Ltd., in 1897, and became chief draughtsman and works manager. He was appointed works manager -of the National Steam Car Co., Ltd., in 1906, chief engineer of the National Omnibus and Transport Co., Ltd., in 1923, and chief engineer of the Eastern National in 1929. Mr. Morison has patented many inventions, and his work during the war on gas-producer units was recognized by the award of the M.B.E. He also designed and patented the successful Essex bus washer. Mr. Morison has been succeeded in the Eastern National concern by MR. W. T. SKINNER, A.M.I.Mech.E., who has for three years been assistant chief engineer, MR. W. F. DRISCOLL, secretary of the Yorkshire Division of the Motor Agents' Association, has been appointed to the staff of the North Eastern Division of the Road Haulage Executive, at Leeds. The M.A.A.'s new Yorkshire secretary is MR. JACK MIDGLEY, formerly assistant secretary.
MR. J. GEMULL, formerly Glasgow manager for Tyres (Scotland), Ltd., has joined Pirelli; Ltd., and will cover the Glasgow, Dumbarton and Argyll areas. MR. L. A. PHILLIPS, who was service manager at the Allesley branch of the Rugby Autocar Co., Ltd., has joined the Pirelli Birmingham branch.
