• Almost 200 jobs will be lost at the Road Transport Industry Training Board over the next two years in response to the RTITB's changing status from a statutory training body to a private training company.
Most of the job losses at the RTITB are expected to come from the board's administrative staff who are involved in raising the statutory levy and distributing the training grants.
It is hoped most of the cuts will be made through voluntary redundancies, but the board's research and development centre will close this summer with the loss of up to 15 jobs.
Capitol House, the board's headquarters, the Greenford skills training centre, and the two-Multi Occupational Training and Education Centres will be retained.
El By 1 April the RTITB, which currently employs 450, will be operating commercially. The current emphasis on the training of hauliers and motor trade personnel is likely to be augmented by moves into new markets such as the training of own account operators' staff.
