Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• London Coaches has extended one of its Routemaster open-toppers used for London sightseeing tours by some 1.5m (5ft).

The work was handled by Kent Engineering at Canterbury, which cut the Routemaster in half and added an extra bay from a scrapped Routemaster, with a lengthened propshaft to suit.

In its new form, the 30-yearold bus is 9.906m (32ft 6in) long instead of 8.33m (24ft 4in) making room for eight more upper-deck seats, to give a total capacity of 72.

More buses may be stretched. There are a number of 9.144m (30ft) long Routemasters in the London Buses fleet.
