• East European vehicle manufacturers are concentrating their efforts on trucks which utilise military know-how to tackle poor roads.
Latest example at the recent Belgrade Show is the Type 3235 eight-wheeler tipper from FAP-Famos. Powered by the 260kW (350hp) Mercedes-Benz 0M442A engine built under licence, the truck is designed for arduous construction work. The spare wheel is located on the rear tailgate, complete with a basic cable hoist for access.
Another development utilising military technology is the latest rough-terrain load carrier from M INR, an old established engine manufacturer which is diversifying into vehicle production. This prototype is designed to offer a 1,200kg payload, powered by M INR's 56,5kW (76hp) S54V engine.
One of Eastern Europe's largest truck builders, TAM of Maribor, is developing some of its products through collaborations with West European truck manufacturers, including Iveco, which supplies TAMbadged Turbostars and sixwheel construction vehicles for sale in eastern Europe.
