• In a report to the transport committee of the new Tees-side County Borough, formed on April 1, Mr. W. C. Wilson, general manager of Teesside Municipal Transport, stated that the bus undertaking was running at a loss of 00,000 per annum, without taking into account the cost of buying new buses. The report stressed the need for fare increases. The Corporation and United Automobile Services Ltd. are to meet to discuss the introduction of a common fares structure in the Tees-side area.
Meanwhile 10 o-m-o single-deck buses bought by the former Stockton-on-Tees undertaking which have been operating with drivers and conductors, have been withdrawn from service, because of a dispute with the men's union. Mr. Wilson stated that as a result of a national dispute over wages, the employees would not cooperate in expanding o-m-o services.
It is understood that the transport committee of the new County Borough is to consider an all-night bus service. The present services finish about 11 p.m. each day and it is suggested that an hourly all-night service should be inaugurated connecting Redcar, Eston, Thornaby, Middlesbrough and Stockton with a minimum fare of Is.
