Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

from our industrial correspondent

• The strike of 3,400 Liverpool busmen entered its sixth week with no sign of a peace settlement. The strike committee met on Tuesday and a further mass meeting was being held at Liverpool Boxing Stadium on Wednesday.

Unless there was any unexpected move. however, no peace formula was likely to satisfy the meeting. The strike is unofficial: but both the TGWU and the General and Municipal Workers' Union are paying the strikers hardship money.

Liverpool City Council members addressed a strike meeting before Easter week-end. They were virtually shouted down and told to keep politics out of an industrial dispute in which bus crews wanted paying for the work they did.

Ald. W. Sefton., Labour group leader on the Tory-controlled council, urged the men to return to work on three points: i) Lay down certain specific conditions; ii) Set up a timetable: iii) If the first two did not meet with their approval, to come out on strike again. The suggestion was shouted down.

An Incomes Board report on the pay of 77,000 municipal busmen may be published next week. But the report on the Liverpool busmen's deal is not expected until the end of May. • The first Daimler Fleetlines to enter service with the Northern General Transport Co. Ltd. have been ordered with Alexander loft overall length bodywork, Gardner 6LX diesel engines and Daimatic gearboxes. Northern General has ordered 12.

• Coventry transport committee is to order bodies from East Lancashire Coachbuilders Ltd. for the 18 Daimler Fleetrine ch'essis which are already on order for 1968/9. The double-deck bodies will cost e5,055 each.
