• Little progress was made in the second and final day of the Stansted applications being heard in the Metropolitan Traffic Area. It had been the intention of the Traffic Commissioners to hear all the applications which were not taken on the first day (as reported in CM April 12), but this was found to be impossible.
United Counties Omnibus Co. Ltd. was granted a licence to divert one of its present services to -call at Stansted. The vehicle will be chartered as a whole and will be able to serve any aircraft which may be diverted to Stansted.
The only other application to be heard was that by Eastern National Omnibus Co. Ltd., S. G. and R. D. Biss and Dons Coaches to operate a joint service between King's Cross, London, and Stansted. Mr. J. Wilson, assistant traffic managc Eastern National, told the Commissione that the 36-mile journey was reckoned take one and a half hoursand wou probably include six pick-up points. I thought that this time would not cliff greatly from that taken by the train servic Mr. M. Clark, passenger sales officer Liverpool Street (BR), said that there w much spare seating capacity on the o peak trains between Liverpool Street ai Stansted. If the need arose, said Mr. Clar the present length of the trains could doubled, and extra trains run on request.
The Commissioners have reserved tit' decision in this case, and the outstandii applications will be heard in Carnbridl when applications for backings are mai (May 14, 15 and 16).
