The head of the vast VW organization, Dipling. Heinrich Nordhoff, died o Friday, aged 69. Professor Nordhoff. who was president and managin director and also held the title of chairman of the board of management c Volkswagenwerk AG, was vice-president of the VAI, West Germany's autc mobile manufacturing association.

Born at Hildesheim, Lower Saxony, Heinrich Nordhoff was an engineerin graduate who worked with BMW and Opel in pre-war years and becam director-general of the biggest truck factory in Europe, the Opel Worl, at Bradenburg, in 1942. At the war's end, he took a job as service manage in a Hamburg garage and it was from this position that the British Militai Government appointed him managing director of the bombed-out VI concern in January 1948.

He was the driving force behind VW's post-war success, and in the yea 1957-67 was the recipient of many international honours and awards: tk UK Institute of the Motor Industry awarded him the Lord Wakefield Go Medal last year. Prof. Nordhoff was also the only Freeman of Wolfsburghome of the VW.

Following a memorial service attended by representatives from all ov the world, Heinrich Nordhoff was buried yesterday, Thursday. at Wolfsbur
