Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

TO link the industrial areas Of Lancashire and Birmingham and, by way of the southern part of the LondonYorkshire motorway, with the south of England, the 97-mile long BirminghamPreston motorway, the proposed line of which was announced by the Minister of Transport on Monday, will be, designed to relieve traffic congestion in the Midlands and the north-west. It will run from a point on the A41 road north-west, passing to the west of Stafford and Stoke-on-Trent, through Cheshire to cross the Manchester Ship Canal east of Warrington. It will then continue through Lancashire to the west of Wigan, to join the southern end of the Preston By-pass, now under construction, near Bamber Bridge.

There will he a tunnel to carry the road under the waters of the Tame Valley Canal in Staffordshire.

• ROAD TO BE CLOSED

BETWEEN May 12 and August 26, Mold Road, Wrexham, will be closed to traffic during reconstruction of railway bridges. The present single-line working will operate until May 12. Services to the North Wales coast that are being diverted include those on the A534 road from Nantwich, the A525 road from Whitchurch, the AS road from Shrewsbury and the A483 road from Chester.

OFF FUEL: NO REBATES

PRICES of petrol and oil fuel were reduced last week by ld. a gallon. The rebates on bulk supplies, which were generally withdrawn, when rationing began, have not yet been restored.
