Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Hauliers are often reluctant to admit using debt collectors in case it puts off new and existing customers. Typical is one general haulier based near Heathrow, which has been using FCC Paragon for several years to collect its more difficult debts. A spokeswoman says: "I generally call them [Paragon] if I feel a customer is evading payment and kidding me. We do get some naughty people, and a debt collector does help with this."

The debts the Heathrow haulier has used Paragon for range from E800 to 212,000 and the spokeswoman says they were all successfully collected. "They've never let us down," she says But she adds one warning: don't be fooled into using a firm that rings you up offering to collect debts but wants money up front.

She says: "We get those calls all the time and it's basically a con. We've heard of other companies where people ring up, get the business, take the money, and then you never see them again."
