THE "OUTRAGEOUS BEHAVIOUR" of a Manchester owner-driver operating from an unauthorised centre without properly taxing his truck has led to a licence revocation. However, North Western Traffic Commissioner Beverley Bell has directed that the revocation should not take effect for a month to give James McKnight a chance to apply for a fresh licence.

McKnight was also called before the TC because of concern over his maintenance record and convictions. McKnight said that outstanding VED had been paid and he was in the process of applying to change his operating centre.

The TC said that she felt that the best way forward was to get rid of the old licence and allow McKnight to apply for a fresh one. McKnight said that he had held a licence for 25 years.

He added there had been no problems until his yard was burnt out and that had affected him severely. The TC said that the way McKnight had been carrying on was quite frankly terrible — it was outrageous behaviour and it could not go on.

After McKnight said: '1 have only recently run into a bit of trouble," the TC retorted:"A bit of trouble:that is an understatement."

Bell gave McKnight one month's grace. "If you get matters sorted out, you can have a new licence. If you don't,you can't," she said.
