Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE OWN LR of a Bridgendbased haulage company has been fined £3,500 after dumping asbestos on an industrial estate in Wales.

Ceri Roberts, boss of KC Light Haulage, pleaded guilty to two offences relating to the mishandling of cement asbestos sheets at Bridgend Magistrates Court.

The court heard how an Environment Agency officer witnessed a van driver tipping the mixed waste which included white, brown and blue asbestos.

An investigation established that the owner of the van was KC Light Haulage and Roberts was the tenant of the unit where the waste was tipped.

The premises were not licensed to accept any wastes and had no measures in place to prevent harm to human health and to the surrounding environment. In addition, a Notice for Information was served on Roberts after he failed to respond to demands to clarify information he had earlier provided. He was ordered to pay £1,500 costs.

An Agency spokesperson says: "It is vital that companies and individuals who are involved in handling or producing waste are aware of their legal obligations."
