Frank B. Ford's move into the chair at Duple is particularly interesting at a time when labour relations figure so strongly everywhere. I recall that when he resigned from Plaxtons after eight years as sales director, an officer of the National Union of Vehicle Builders expressed regret, and paid tribute to FBF's sales policy contributing to the firm's success—the aim being continuous rather than seasonal employment.

Duple's 93-year-old founder, Herbert White, who is continuing as president, said this week that he sees a successful future for the company under the new direction.

When he started Duple in 1919 Mr White had plenty of experience, though not all of it directly relevant. As a schoolboy he rode an Ordinary (later called the penny farthing), and when he made his way into motor manufacture it was by way of bikes—he joined his brother in an agency for Rover cycles. But long before that he'd been apprenticed to an ironmonger and had a go at dairy farming. An eventful 93 years.
