Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Daimler-Benz and MAN of Germany, already equal partners in a company engaged on gas turbine development, have now agreed to supply each other with parts for certain types of engines and driving axles. The two makers will use the same parts for these units so far as possible, but final assembly of respective units will be carried out by each firrn and the mutual delivery will probably commence in 1972 with parts for the V-engines. It is not clear to what extent Daimler-Benz and MAN engines and gearbox can be rationalized. Current V diesels concerned are a Daimler-Benz VIO and MAN VS which are quite different and it is difficult to imagine that they could share many common major parts. However. the two companies could standardize on one of the units for top weight models in the same way that Hanomag-Henschel (a Daimler-Benz subsidiary) now uses the V10.
