A Résumé of Recently Published Patent Specifications.

WE are glad te see that attention is being paid to the important subject of better ventilation of motor coaches. Although we can hardly agree that the methods described in specification No. 295,348, William Lintern, of Ohio, U.S.A., meet with our views on the subject, it points to the fact that efforts are being made to reduce the stuffiness often noticed in motor coaches In hot weather. The stated object of the invention is to provide Cu all

weather apparatus, which consists of an air duct which will not detract from the appearance of the vehicle. This air duct may be used for ventilating, cooling, or heating the vehicle. The drawing shows the position of the air duct, which collects air deflected from the windscreen and passes it along tubes on both sides of the vehicle, blow ing it upwards under the seats. A water baffle is arranged to catch sand and such unwanted substances that may be brought in with the air, and an arrangement is provided to prevent rain collecting in the duct. Heating is effected by means of chambers which are in close Proximity to the exhaust pipes and through which the air passes.

Our experience leads us to believe that ventilation can better be effected by extracting the foul air than by introducing air in the form of a blast through comparatively small openings, the effect of which is more in the nature of an objectionable draught than true ventilation.

Another Ventilating Invention.

SPECIFICATION No. 295,408, by Herbert •Mobbs, relates to the better ventilation of covered bodies by means of a sliding roof. The specification does not appear to disclose any points which seem to us to be very novel. We mention it as a further indication that efforts are being made in the direction of improved ventilation.
