Arcese goes for urban, lower cost Cartwrights

Arcese has ordered two urban curtainsider trailers from Cartwright for its London operation. The trailers promise “maximum utilisation at much lower cost”. Cartwright sales manager Clive Dingle said: “There is a trend that Euro-6s are coming along and rigids are getting expensive. The task is to build trailers to fit that scenario. I see this developing into a trend, particularly as Euro-5s run out and Euro-6s come in.

SJ Archer saves fuel with Volvo FH replacement

Welsh haulier SJ Archer & Sons has reported fuel savings after buying a new Volvo FH 6x4 tractor unit from Truck and Bus Wales & West. Owner Stan Archer said it also offered better tyre wear than the Scania 6x2 it replaced. The unit is coupled with a tri-axle logging trailer from Dennison and will work both onand off-road.

Eurovision Logistics adds Actros units to fleet

Hull-based Eurovision Logistics has taken delivery of the first of eight Mercedes-Benz Actros tractors, bought from Northside Truck & Van. Adding to its 80-strong fleet, the firm covers the UK and western Europe. MD Dominic Yeardley said: “I was very proud when it turned up in its new silver colour. All thanks to Northside Mercedes for its efforts. The drivers love it and while it’s too early to have meaningful fuel consumption figures, initial figures look encouraging.”

Hodgson sticks with Mercedes Atego and Sprinter

Hodgson & Hodgson has invested in four Mercedes-Benz vehicles to deliver its thermal insulation products. It has put three 7.5-tonne Ategos and a 3.5-tonne Sprinter into service at the firm’s Burton-on-Trent site, supplied by Derby dealer Mertrux. The Ategos have curtainsider bodywork manufactured by Leicester firm Transport Enterprises. Group purchasing manager Roy Aldred said: “This is the second time we’ve moved three 7.5-tonne Ategos out and replaced them with three more. They have never let us down and have always been reliable, fuel-efficient and popular with drivers.”

Fox Plant extends Thompsons deal with Multimasters

Family-owned Fox Plant (Owmby) has added four Thompsons Multimaster-bodied Scanias to its fleet. With 8mm hardened aluminium floors and almost 18m3 carrying capacity, the Multimasters meet Fox’s 20-tonne payload requirement to help high productivity. Transport manager Steve Maplethorpe said: “We’ve evolved with Thompsons. For more than 20 years we’ve worked side by side with the team to get the best body possible at each particular point in time.”

Renaults’ reliability comes up trumps for Ian Craig

Ian Craig (Haulage) has taken delivery of eight Renault wagons, which will be used to transport construction materials from its base in Falkirk, Scotland. It has added seven Premium 6x2 tagaxle tractor units and a Lander 6x2 tag-axle rigid with a bespoke rear-mounted crane to its fleet of 55 vehicles and 155 trailers. “We have only had the trucks a few weeks but we haven’t been disappointed. Fuel consumption is impressive – proving to be as competitive as the most fuel-efficient of the other marques on our fleet,” said director Kevin Craig. “In addition, driver feedback is good; service levels excellent and all the Renault Premiums have proved to be reliable so far. If they continue to operate well then we will certainly consider adding more to our fleet in the future.”
