A WIRRAL operator has been granted a restricted licence for three vehicles on condition that he only operates one until there has been a satisfactory Vosa maintenance investigation in nine months.

North-Western Deputy Traffic Commissioner Patrick Mulvenna imposed the condition on the new licence for Jonathan O'Grady, trading as J O'Grady Reclaim. The Deputy TC was also considering action against the six-vehicle licence held by Barnston,Merseyside-basedJ O'Grady Ltd. Vehicle examiner Steven Anderton said O'Grady had only used one vehicle for some time. O'Grady had told him that the limited company had not traded for some years and he had applied for a licence of his own in February 2002. Anderton felt there had been some confusion as a variation of the company's licence was issued rather than a new licence and he told O'Grady he must apply for a licence in his own name immediately.

O'Grady said J O'Grady Ltd and J O'Grady Builders Merchants Ltd were formed by his late father, and that he had been a director of the former company for a short time before resigning. One company closed down in about 1995 and the other in 2002. There was only one vehicle on the road and he was its driver.

As well as granting the restricted licence, the DTC revoked the licence of the limited company. He also expressed concern at an 85% failure rate at annual test, saying it put a question mark over the work of O'Grady's maintenance contractor.
