• Danish haulier Gasa Odense launched a sophisticated drawbar outfit at this month's Paris show, designed to keep plants and cut flowers at optimum temperatures over long journies.
The 18m air-sprung combination, based on a Scania R113MV 6 x 2 B and GMV Sawo trailer carries Tingley Karosserifabrik-built 2.9m-high GRP bodies, seven and eight metres respectively to carry 22 and 24 flower containers.
Thermo King's latest RD1150 cooling units, rated at 7,000W (freezing) and 4,500W (-18°C) are used together with the Therm ax heating system. This speeds up defrosting and controls the inner temperature more closely.
To ininimise stress on the
plants, Gasa has devised a special roof ducting network to spread the cool air around them. Extractor fans in the floor prevent build up.
To keep the driver and base informed of the vehicle's location and load temperature. Gasa has fitted Thermo King's satellite tracking system. A Kienzle fuel flow meter and operational logging device .relay data to the office.
