Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

FOCAS, the Ford Operating Cost Analysis System, offers all commercial-vehicle, psv and car fleet operators the benefits of a regular monthly cost reporting system.

Up-to-date computerised techniques have meant that the latest information is available to fleet operators, with only three working days between the input of information and the published final analysis.

The system gives the operator a complete analysis of miles per gallon, running costs per mile, vehicle availability, and maintenance charges, as well as cost per unit delivered.

It can thus give a profit-andloss basis monitoring of vehicle efficiency.

The reporting system compares vehicles of similar groups against the cost efficiency of other sizes of vehicle either in single units or as a group total, as well as in mileage and age categories.

It is also possible to compare vehicles operating from one depot with those operating at another within the same company and to see how these results measure up to a national average cost of operation.

In this way, current maintenance programmes can take into account all the hidden charges of vehicle operation. Even the cost of operating semi-trailers combined with their tractive units may be included in the program.

The use of FOCAS allows any transport manager or company executive to estimate future budget requirements against the basis of existing charges, and identify vehicles due for replacement.
