Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Recently I have noted quite a number of coaches in "National" white livery, just carrying the "NATIONAL" fleetname at the rear, with no company name over the front wheels.

On closer inspection, I have found that these vehicles belong to National Travel (South East) Ltd. Does this mean that the traditional names of Timpson, Tillings and Samuelson are being dropped? If this is so, is the National Bus Company aware that Tillings is one of the oldest names in the history of road passenger transport in this country? We have already seen the loss of Southern National, Notts and Derby, Grey Cars, to mention a few, and to lose more of the traditional names would be a great pity.

C.D. FULLER Gravesend Kent [NBC's stated policy is to retain the old fleet names, although they no longer have legal significance. We can only think that on the vehicles you have seen the name has been inadvertently omitted — Ed.]
