BUS CREWS employed by the. South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive took a ballot vote on Tuesday to decide whether or not to accept a new pay offer made by the PTE.

Mr Jack Green, trade group secretary of the Transport and General Workers' Union in Leeds, told CM this. week: "This offer does not meet our claim in full. But the union is recommending acceptance." He went on to outline the new offer.

All drivers of one-manoperated buses, either single or double-decker, have been offered a basic rate of £50 for a guaranteed 40 hr five-day week. Drivers have been offered £42.50 for the same hours, and conductors £40.

The PTE drivers work in three districts: Rotherham, Doncaster and Sheffield. While in the former two districts services have been operated as normal, there has been an overtime ban in the Sheffield district since September 29, and on October 10 a one-day strike in support of the pay claim was carried out.

At a county council passenger committee meet ing a vote of confidence was given to the South Yorkshire PTE for the way in which it dealt with the pay negotiations.

The latest offer, which also includes various bonus benefits, was made on Friday at a meeting of the TGWU and the PTE.

A spokesman said on Tuesday that it was thought the offer would be accepted.
