all-steel lift-off bulk body for rries introduced by Lockwood raders (UK) Ltd., has a selflloading body designed priarily for hauling potatoes. lions, carrots and grain but >uld be used for other corn It has been built to meet the articular requirements of irmers, hauliers and merchants ansporting potatoes to procesng plants—particularly in the orth of England. For this reason ockwood has incorporated an 8in, wide heavy-duty conveyor elt for faster turn-round—and isulated the body so that root rops when covered with a arpaulin sheet cannot be lamaged by frost.

Construction is of pressed teel—electrically welded. Body gessings are 8ft wide and 5ft lin. high. They can be made to it any lorry platform and length s optional. The floor has a 14deg Ingle for maximum capacity and smooth internal finish prevents uild-up of soil and allows the ontents to roll to the conveyor elt easily.

The conveyor belt can be towered by electric motor or etrol engine, which are of the snap-on" type--only one motor eing required at the off-loading oint for a complete lorry fleet. Standard features of the body nclude a reduction drive for the elt, operator's ladder, storage ack for the wooden boards used o cover the belt, and jacking ads.

Extras include remote-control witch gear controlling the lectric motor—for when the perator is inside the container. A 25ft long body has a capacity f about 16 tons of potatoes and e unladen weight of the insuted container is 1 ton 9cwt. The ody is constructed in 14 and 16 auge sheet-steel reinforced by lin, by by 15 gauge ressed-steel box sections. The ssembly is mounted on two yin. by 2in. by in. pressed annel sections running through e length of the body to form a rong but light chassis.

The chassis is supported by a ft 6in. long by 2in. by 1in. annel floor-runner, spaced at litres to coincide with pressed • x-sections on the body. Each illar is supported by a pair of lin.

• uare hollow section uprights on e leftand right-hand side of e container.

When insulated, a three-part sandwich-structure, made up from lin. polyurethane foam protected by a kin. hardboard or 4mm plywood of exterior quality, leaves a smooth surface which facilitates movement of the load. The bottom edges of these laminates are protected by a lin. steel lip and the top edge is sealed off by a 14 gauge cover strip, running round the top of the container and welded back to the pressed box section for added strength. The "K" value of the insulation equals 0.16 Btu sq.ft./hr deg f.

An initial coat of anti-rust primer is sprayed onto the bare metal. One undercoat is applied and the body is finished with one top coat of metallic polychromatic paint.
