Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A liquid systems flow controller has been developed by Liquid Systems Ltd.. to facilitate the operation of liquid deliveries road tank vehicles, particularly those making house-to-house deliveries of domestic fuel oil.

It gives the operator a means of remote control over pump output on diesel-engined vehicles where the delivery pump is driven by the engine through a power take-off. The operator can engage the pump drive and, with the engine at idling speed, run out the delivery hose which must be equipped with a nozzle fitted with a shut-off valve. At this stage there will be pressure in the delivery system but no flow.

As soon as the nozzle is opened. flow commences. This is sensed by the unit and a solenoid which is mechanically linked to the engine throttle mechanism is energized, thus opening the throttle by a pre-set amount to bring the pump up to full operat ing speed. When delivery ceases this sequence is reversed.

A pressure switch is incorporated in the unit and controls a second solenoid coupled to the engine cut-out. This serves to stop the pump and protect the pipe work system and hoses in the event of excessive pressure being built up. The unit is simple, compact and based on welltried principles. It is designed to fit into 2in. nominal bore pipe work and is supplied complete with solenoids suitable for operation from a vehicle electrical system of 12V.
