• Exeter transport undertaking's loss this year could be as much as £30,000, Exeter City Council has been told by the city treasurer, Mr. J. Hetherington. He says that during the three months ended June 1968, an operating loss of £4,505 was incurred, mainly because of reduced receipts and Increased wage costs.
On the whole year a loss of £15,660 was likely, against an estimated surplus of £1,895, and this estimated deficit took no account of the probable outcome of the present wage dispute. If the settlement cost £14,000 to £17,000, the actual loss for the year could be of the order of £30,000.
Mr. Hetherington states that the probable result for 1968/69 once more raised the question whether the deficit should be met by increased fares or by rates subvention.
