Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

At Billingham

• Mr. J. A. T. Hanlon, Northern LA, opening the new 14-acre transport and storage depot of R. Durham and Sons Ltd. at Billingham on Wednesday, urged a policy of mutual co-operation between hauliers. The transport industry could not manage without the small man, he said, but in order to survive he needed the help of operators like Durham with regard to storage of spare parts and making servicing facilities available.

Durham operates 98 vehicles all over 16 tons gross, and Mr. Gordon Durham, a director, told CM that the proposed legislation had not influenced the purchasing policy to the detriment of customer requirements. "We must continue to serve our customers while the politicians are thrashing out the legislation", he said.

At Wimbledon

• New central workshops for the transport group of Initial Services Ltd. were opened at Wimbledon by the chairman, Mr. Kenneth E. Garcke on Wednesday. Housed in a single span building, the workshops are equipped for routine maintenance, major overhaul, body repair and painting and the facilities include a roller brake tester and a sunken workshop. As well as dealing with the -repair and maintenance of 35 locally based vehicles, the shops will provide body overhaul and repainting for about 400 vehicles every 18 months. The company also intends to offer its facilities to other operators where capacity permits.
