The Minister of Transport believes that

• -tachographs are an essential element in • the proposed new arrangements for reduced • drivers' hours-. Mr. Richard Marsh made •

• this clear in a reply to a letter from the Con • federation of British Industry (CM Oct. 11) • • which arose out of the torrymen's strike in • the North.

• Mr. Marsh added that the question of •

• what tachographs will have to record is • entirely open to question. He pointed out • that the Transport Bill contains only an • • enabling clause to require the fitting of • tachographs.
