Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Single-deck Bus. 6 ton Lorry.

A 19 ft. 6 in. Loading Platform. IS TA ND No. 56.

THE-new 50 h.p. Maudslay engine is described and illustrated on another page. Dealing with the 6-7 ton chassis to which it is fitted, one notices various alterations to that vehicle. For instance, the frame now measures 38 ins. across, which is an increase of 5 ins, on the previous ,measurement. All wheels run on roller and ball bearings, those in front being designed. to allow "central pivot steering. The track is 5 in. wider

and now measures:5.ft. 11 ins. • • The rear axle has been improved by the fitting of larger differential shafts, which now measure 2* ins. in diameter. The brake drums have been increaaed in size, their diameter being 24 ins, and their width 4 ins. They are lined' with .n50 compressed Ferodo, against which caststeel shoes are expanded. A nickelchrome forged steel one-piece axle is retained, the design permitting withdrawal of the rear axle driving gear complete when once the differential shafts have been removed.

The front springs have been lengthened by 7 ins., and all wheels are of the cast-steel pattern.

In addition to the 6 ton lorry, a 3 ton

32 h.p. chassis is shown. As on the vehicle already described, the driver's seat is at the side of the engine, the principal -feature of interest on this chassis being the specially short wheelbase by means of which the vehicle can be run straight on to any standard weighbridge.

Twe passenger vehicles are also shown. One is ,a 28 seater char-ft-banes, fitted' with the well-known Buckingham body and a neat form of hood, and the other ,is a 35-seater single-deck omnibus. There are two entrances to this vehicle, that at the rear being effected through a folding door, which opens on to a capacious smoking compartment, the seating accommodation of which is arranged around

the sides of the vehicle. The driver's seat is walled off from the rest of the borly, a let-down, occasional seat giving access to the main compartment from the front. Both of these bodies are extremely well finished, the char-a-banes being mounted on a chassis with a 14 ft. 6 in. wheelbase and the omnibus on a

• chassis with 15 ft. wheel-base. Worm

drive and' cast-steel wheels shod with 'single solid tyres in front and twins on the rear are. fitted on both these vehicles.
