Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Saloon Bus.

Road Sweeping Machine.

STAND No. 72.

THREE exhibitsare staged on the Laftly stand. The fourth, which is the welt-known ',AV sweeper, had not arrived at the time of our visit.

The vehicle which is arousing the most interest is certainly the Laffly-Schneider limousine saloon bus, the body of which was built by Breteau Freres, Paris, anti which is the actual vehicle that took part in the tour of Great Britain recently organized by the company. Seating accommodation is provided for 20 persons, all of whom sit facing forward with the exception of four who face each other. The body is finished in maroon.

This vehicle is of the overtype, the driver sitting above the engine, and at his side is accommodation for one person. In many aspects of its design this machine is similar to the chassis employed for the Paris omnibus, incorporating as it does the dual-type rear axle, In which the load is taken by one mem

ber ; the driving shafts are exposed and end in pinions engaged with internal gear rings on the .wheels. At the other side of the stand is the Laffly tipOng wagon with a capacity. of 5 tons. The body is of exceptional size, and the tipping gear is of a special winch type, which gives a large tipping

angle. The winch is driven through worm gearing and a spur gear meshing with the primary pinion of the gearbox. An automatic device opens the tailboard of the body when tipping takes place. Both this vehicle and the one previously described can be supplied with right or left hand drive, and three or four speeds.

The third exhibit is an 8 ten petrol road roller. A tank, provided with a number of. longitudinal tubes, carries the water ballast, which also acts as a cooling agent. The fan behind this tank assists in drawing air through the tubes. A special point about this machine is that the wheels are cast-steel throughout, and all the bearing surfaces are hardened steel. The engine, is a little two-cylinder.
