Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

2± ton Covered Lorry. Platform Lorry for Pantechnicon. STAND No. 57.

THE Hallford exhibits consist of four vehicles and a chassis. One of the vehicles is a 4 ton machine carrying a brewer's body with sectioned sides and ordinary tailboard. Adequate protection is afforded the driver by a large cab with one door at the near side, and a double windscreen of the quarter deflecting type

also assists in this respect. The next vehicle of particular interest is the 5 ton end tipping wagon with the Wood hydraulic hoist, which is positioned as usual between the cab and the body. Incidentally, the latter was built by John C. Beadle, Ltd. The drive to the hydraulic pump is by meansof a coun• tershaft on the top of the gearbox, a dog clutch throwing this out of action when the pump is not working.

Al, the other side of the stand is another very interesting exhibit, this being a 3 ton chassis with a specially long wheelbase, carrying a lorry body which is so designed that, by removing the sides and tailboard, it can be utilized in conjunction with a pantechnicon lift van body, thus making •the single vehicle' serve a dual purpose. 'The chassis is a very fine piece of work and includes several improvements. Amongst these is the special roller chain universal joint at each end of the propeller shaft. In this joint, sprocket teeth are cut on the shafts at each side, a continuous length of Renold roller chain joining the two sets of sprocket teeth.

The Hallford is well known for the adequate way in which the, driving chains are protected from dirt and totally enclosed by cast aluminium oil retaining cases made in halves.

A particular point about the engine is the cross drive to the magneto and water pump, which is arranged so that the make and break is particularly accessible. Incidentally the magneto is fitted with a C.M.L impulse starter.
