V.-seater Omnibus. Six-cylinder Engines.
STAND No. 46.
TREmost striking exhibit on the Halley stand is the special overtype single-deck bus to seat 37. This is an entirely new departure, the positioning of the driver beside the engine making possible the provision of this large-capacity boda: The actual fixed seats provide accomoclation for 31 persons only, but additional seats are placed across the gangway. The windows are all fixed, but, there is a ventilator at the front. The body was built by John Buckingham, Ltd.
The other passenger vehicle is a 32seater coach of very handsome appear ance and finished in dark green. The builders of the body are Thomas Har
rington, Ltd., of Brighton. The appearance of the vehicle is enhanced by the fact that the sides are more bulb ous than usual. -Doors are provided at the near side only, except in the case of the driver's seat. The chassis employed is the latest six-cylinder model, which has overhead worm drive and the wheels are shod with giant: pneumatic tyres.
Municipal needs are catered for by the provision of a 750 gallon gully emptier and sprinkler, provided with a Reavell exhauster driven by the engine, and a small windlass is fitted for lifting the suction hose.
In addition to these vehicles two chassis are shown. The 3-31 ton sixcylinder model embodies some interesting features, including a eingle-diad clutch, self-centring universal joints on the cardan shaft, and afoot brake, which is carried at the tail end of the worm shaft. The other chassis is a 6 ton chain-driven model, with which many users are, familiar. It is similar to former models, with the exception of the clutch, which is of the single-plate type. The oil pump also has been re-designed with a centre bearing.
