• 5-way Tipper with Latymer Gear. 2 ton Tipper with Constable Gear. 5i Um Brewer's Wagon.
STAND No. 66.
THE centre of attraction on this stand is undoubtedly the three-way tipping wagon. The wagon body is mounted on four pins, one at each cor• ner. By releasing the two on the -off side it is free to be tipped ever the near side, and vice versa. By. releasing the two pins at the front, the wagon can be tipped to the rear. The power for tipping is derived from a small motor situated under -the driver's seat and transmitting its power through a longitudinal shaft mounted just inside the off-side frame member, then to a doubly-articulated cross shaft, and, finally, to 'a worm -fl and wheel, which operates the nut of a vertical spool, the upper end of which is attached to the under side of the body. A short cable, which is -tightened when the point of maximum tip is reached, Automatically throws the mechanism out of -gear. The articulated Cross shaft is squared at each end for the' reception-of
the usual handle so that the tipping gear may be manually operated if, for any rea son, no current is available. The all-. steel. hinged sided body and the tipping gear were made and fitted by Carrosserie Latymer, Ltd.
All the General Vehicle machines are operated by a single motor, which drives forward by enclosed chains to a cross shaft, whence the final drive is by side
chains. Brakes are -fitted on the ends of the cross shaft, as well as to drums
on the rear wheel. • Another tip wagon on the same stand is operated by a motor driving a horizontal screw through chain and bevel gearings. This was arranged for rear tipping only, the wagon body being pushed backwards up a ramp and automatically overbalancing, when hooks on the under side of the body engage stops mounted on the end of the chassis.
The high sides of the brewer's wagan, which was another exhibit on this stand, were arranged in sections.
