• Fleets in the US using low-sulphur diesel are reporting growing incidents of 0-ring failures in the fuel system. Seals made from nitrile rubber have been failing after only three weeks in
Cummins, Navistar and Caterpilkir engines.
According to Carl Kirk of the the American Transport Maintenance Council (TMC) around half of US fleets have reported problems following the introduction of the fuel on 1 October. Fuel with a 0.005% sulphur content has worked without problems in California since 1989. 7 The American Society of Automotive Engineers is poised to introduce a diagnostic protocol (SAE J19039) to replace ISO 9141.
