AN application by a Nottingham haulage

group for five new vehicles on a B licence in South Wales was adjourned by the South Wales Licensing Authority at Cardiff last week.

The application by Jewitt, G. W. Thomson and Co. Ltd., of Pasture Lane, Ruddington, Notts, was for five 5-ton vans not exceeding 21+ tons to be acquired for the conveyance of foodstuffs, confectionery, wines, beverages, pharmaceuticals, toiletries and household requisites in and out of the warehouse of the licensee in No. 2 hangar, Llandow Airfield, near Cowbridge. Glamorgan.

Objectors were the Transport Holding Co., BRS (Parcels) Ltd., and Hill's Transport (Cardiff) Ltd.

Mr. Graham Hubert Allen, group transport manager of the applicant company, said it had specialized in warehouse business for almost 12 years. It had operated a Llandow Airfield depot since 1964, when it acquired Tetlows Removals Ltd., of Newport, Monmouthshire. Business had increased considerably and at certaki times deliveries were taking as much as six days from the receipt of orders. The company had approached BRS but had been told the particular type of service could not be supplied.

Mr. Allen said there were six vehicles in South Wales but one was being returned to Ruddington. It was estimated that 10 vehicles would be required for future needs. Average earnings for articulated vehicles worked out at about £9,000 a year.
