AN examination of the report on the public inquiry into a proposed ban on loading and unloading at Newcastle is made in the Traders' Road Transport Association monthly bulletin. Mr. H. R. The report recognized the essential pat which the goods vehicle plays in the busi ness and economic life of the communi15 writes Mr. Featherstone, and it also receq nized this role should not be disrupte, until such time as every practicable alter native has been tried. " This is a realisti assessment and C licensees generally wil welcome it. Nevertheless, there are cet lain features of the report which give ris to concern."

If imposed, the ban in Newcastle woul. leave only five hours of the normal work

ing day available for deliveries Th inspector's report admitted that such ban would cause difficulty for vehicle travelling to Newcastle from long dim lances;, that there was bound to be a: increase in costs; and that some trad would be lost

The full effect of such a ban in term of disruption of trade was far from full' appreciated.
