A CO-ORDINATED scheme of coach

services for the mainland of Orkney was drawn up, last week, by the Northern Scotland Traffic Commissioners% with the assistance of two solicitors from Orkney. Applications for licences fall into seven groups, and standard fares have been arranged, chiefly on a basis of 2d, per mile. A request was made that the Commissioners should visit the Islands to see for themselves the conditions obtaining there.

So far as Shetland is concerned, the Commissioners were somewhat hampered by the non-representation of applicants, many of whom sought greatly increased fares, and it was intimated that fares would be fixed on a basis of 2d. per mile.
